July 2018 Nitro club race

The weather treated us very gentle this race meeting. In comparison with the previous week’s miserable weather, we almost had a summer’s day. Thank heavens, because I wouldn’t be able to endure another Sunday like that!

In spite of the beautiful weather, the drivers still arrived late. We will form now on start earlier again and we will appreciate everyone’s co operation.

The Race:

The first race started at 9h16 and out of the 8 drivers, only four were ready. This is not very disciplined, don’t you think? And the first couple of races were all bump- car- racing. Rough…to say the least..! Not nice, guys.

Okay, now I am done scolding you and can continue my race report.

Heat 1:

Only four competitors ready and the driver with the best results by far was André Steenekamp. His best lap – 19.24s

Henry Ogden ended 2nd and Anzea Pretorius 3rd. Francois ended 4th.

Heat 2 :

André beat the rest of his rivals even further and he also improved on his previous best lap – 18.47s

By the way; his closest rival 4 laps behind him…

Francois moved into 2nd position and Anzea stayed in 3rd.

Henry moved down to 4th. Charmaine Wright now joined the team and completed 13 laps.

Still 3 drivers missing in action…

Heat 3 :

André still in his comfortable lead, this time his closest rival, Francois was three laps behind him.

Francois was followed by Anzea and she was followed by Henry.

Piet now also joined the race and Charmaine had a VERY late start….she actually joined just before the end of the race.

Heat 4:

Piet du Toit brought a new dimension into the race by taking the lead over from André. And Charmaine showed us what she is really capable of by moving into 2nd place.

GT Finals:

Disaster struck for André after the completion of only 2 normal laps. He left the race for 7 minutes and returned for another 28 laps, before he went off again. Another return and 18 great laps, and the bad luck struck again, but not before he delivered his best lap – 18.23s. With 59 laps behind him, a broken con rod made sure that he retired from the race altogether. So sorry….

Piet made the best of the 30 minute race and his late arrival by winning this month’s race fair and square! Best of 84 laps – 19.19s. Well done!!

Charmaine ended 2nd with 81 laps, the quickest one being 19.89s

Francois had a satisfying race with very little incidents. He completed a total of 74 laps. Best lap – 20.45s

Johan Korff, who apparently thought that our Nitro club race meeting was only next week, finally joined the rest and ended 4th. He completed 68 laps.

Anzea drove a car with a flapping body and all kinds of funny moves, but she still managed to stay on the track for 30 minutes and completed 66 laps.

Henry had an incident or two, but also completed the race, after doing 59 laps.

Keep warm...keep welll... and we will see you next month?
