November 2018 Electric On Road club race

What a scorching hot day!? And after two consecutive heavy wind storms, we are currently minus half the shade netting over the driver stand. Sorry about that. We will make sure that it is fixed before the new racing season starts in January 2019.

Henry, the track owner decided not to take part in racing on this day. The main reason was the he was still waiting for spare parts from Pretoria. Uhmmm, I think he is still waiting..

30-something entries made it more than worth our while to endure the extreme heat and host this club race meeting for you. As Henry always says at drivers’ briefing: “Thank you for your attendance.”

We were pleasantly surprised by the visit of two guys that have been here before, Shaun Hards and Garth Nofal. And they brought with them two beginners, Brittni Nofal and her boyfriend, (I think) Ryan Dods.

Car of the Day award - Piet du Toit

Beginner class:

Round 1:

The 1st round was won by 12 year old Victor Fourie. Little Ruan Brauer ended 2nd and Ruan Visagie was seen in 3rd. Brittni Nofal and Ryan Dods were clearly not ready for the RC thing then…

Round 2 :

Things changed dramatically, because now we see Newbie Ryan Dods in the lead. His previous single lap now changed into 13 laps!! And he sommer achieved no less than 3 laps of less than 25 seconds! For 1st time readers of my race reports: This (25 seconds laps) is the point where I usually say that a driver is now ready to - and capable of - joining the ‘proper’ classes. But we will not rush him….

Victor descended to 2nd place and Ruan Visagie moved up one place. Small Ruan was struggling to keep his car on the road. I am not sure what was faulty on his car. Brittni at least doubled the amount of laps completed in the 1st round.

Finals - Leg 1:

This time Ruan Visagie took the victory for himself and Victor had to be content with 2nd place yet again. Now Ryan Dods was in 3rd place. Ruan was still struggling and Brittni Did not start.

Leg 2 of Finals:

Ryan Dods Won this final beginner race of the day. He also achieved his quickest lap of the day – 24.45s. Good job, Ryan! Ruan Visagie moved into 2nd place and Victor into 3rd.

Overall:

  1. Ruan Visagie
  2. Ryan Dods
  3. Victor Fourie

Electric Mini:

Paul Langenhoven, Louis Nortje and Francois Geyser had to fight this one out.

Paul maintained his 1st place position right through the day. He also succeeded in completing 16 laps in every race. Best lap – 21.21 Well done!!!!

Louis ended 2nd in three out of the four races, but ended 3rd in the last leg of the day, when Francois took over his 2nd place. Louis completed 15 laps in every race. His Quickest lap - 22.95.

Francois kicked off with 13 laps in every qualifier, but during the Finals, he improved quite dramatically. He completed 15 laps and his average came down from 29 to 24.7 seconds. Good job, Francois!

Mini Overall:

  1. Paul Langenhoven
  2. Louis Nortje
  3. Francois Geyser

540 Touring:

A much smaller group than a couple of months ago, when we had to split you guys up in two groups, isn’t it?

I am not sure where, when and by whom, but somewhere during the day I overheard Henry complaining two drivers started form the pit area, instead of from the grid, and it could possibly be in this class, according to lap times that don’t correspond with the rest of the drivers.

Leon van Rooyen kick-started his day with a win. He continued this winning streak throughout the day. His best lap for the day – 19.79s. Good job, Leon!

Francois gave Leon a hard time by staying close to him all the way, apart from the very last leg, when Francois sadly picked up car trouble. Francois’s best lap – 20.74s. Mooi man!

James Theron didn’t have a bad racing day at all. He completed 15 laps in almost every race. His quickest lap – 22.88s

Piet du Toit achieved two 3rd places and one 2nd place. Fastest lap – 20.23s

Charmaine Wright boasts one 2nd place and two 4th places. Her fastest lap - 21.69s

540 Overall:

  1. Leon van Rooyen
  2. Piet du Toit
  3. Francois Geyser

21.5 Touring:

This class had been a little bit bigger than in the recent past. 10 drivers competed against each other.

I think I can safely say that the biggest competition was amongst Piet, Leon, Kevin Gates and Willtin Brauer. Although the relatively new Jason Strauss that was kicked out of the Beginner class last month, due to his better than average performance, he seemed to be stiff competition for the top 4 guys..he came 3rd twice..which I predicted all along! Jy sien Jason, ek het jou mos gesê!!

The rest of the drivers were Esmarie Geyser, Janu Lombaard, Gert Fourie and James Theron.

These are their individual quickest laps:

Willtin’s best lap – 18.73

Janu’s best lap – 19.25

Leon’s best lap – 19.52

Piet’s best lap – 19.61

Kevin’s best lap – 19.72

Paul’s best lap – 20.02

Jason’s best lap – 20.71

Esmarie’s best lap – 20.86

Gert’s best lap – 21.19

James’s best lap – 21.57

21.5 overall:

  1. Leon van Rooyen
  2. Kevin Gates
  3. Piet du Toit

TTO1 Stock:

Charmaine pocketed this race. Her day’s results looks like this:

One win, one DNS, one 2nd place and yet another 2nd place. Best lap - 22.07s

Louis has won two races, ended 2nd once and 3rd once. Best lap – 21.63s

Janu Lombard hardly competed in the qualies, but he managed to win the 1st leg of the Finals and 4th in the last leg. His best lap – 21.19s

Nathan boasts one 2nd and one 3rd place. His best lap – 22.28s

TTOI Overall:

  1. Charmaine Wright
  2. Louis Nortje
  3. Janu Lombard

Kevin Gates’ best lap - 17.30 WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!

Paul Langenhoven’s best lap – 18.22s Impressive…

Shaun Hards’ best lap – 19.57s

13.5 Overall:

  1. Kevin Gates
