May 2014 On - Road Race Report
By : The Madman
Good Day All
The Madman is having a go at a Race Report, so here goes.
It was good to see some new faces and as usual at my age, the memory let me down with the names, still, it was good to see the odd old member put in an appearance.
The meeting was relatively small, but I put this down to the holidays and we hope to see you all back again.
This month's Best Presented Body:
Won by Jakkie Landsberg
The Race:
Heat 1
200mm Nitro
Round1
Although we have seen a couple of these before, it was nice to have a race just on their own.
There were a few new faces in the class, namely Lucas and Charmaine.
There were a couple guys who entered and did not make itJason jumped into an early lead and was pulling away until the gremlins intervened on lap 6; Lucas then went on to win his first race.
Kobus came in third ahead of Henry
Round 2
This was a bit different with a hint perhaps of things to come. Charmaine made the start and led the first lap, Lucas went first for a lap and then Charmaine again. Kobus sorted out his trouble and came through on lap 5 and lead to the end. After having a dice with Henry, Jason edged his way into second ahead of Henry, Charmaine and Lucas.
A Final:
My nemesis Charmaine got away in third place and by lap 5 she was in the lead and never headed again. Lucas started and led until lap four. Lap 5 saw him in third place before recovering to second to the end. Our pole sitter Kobus ran second and third until the problems started and he eventually retired on lap 11..Henry has an extremely quick car and is still doing the final sorting, he finished third. Renier vd Kevie, after a day long struggle, started the final and ended 5th
Result
1st Charmaine Wright 38 laps
2nd Lucas Dillschnitter 33 laps
3rd Henry Ogden 22 laps
4th Kobus Griesel 11 laps
5th Renier Van Der Kevie 8 laps
Day two of the madman’s attempt at a race report
Heat 2
Mini
Round 1
Three cars entered for this class.
Daniel jumped into an early lead, closely followed by Jason and Jakkie.
Lap 6 and Jason led but, this was short lived and from here in the lead changed between them almost every lap with Jason being in front when it counts. Daniel was second and Jakkie third.
Round 2 This race was not as exciting as the first race with the positions as per the running order. What do you mean not exciting…………..??
Daniël drove as hard as he could to catch Jason and at times it looked as if the cars were locked together.
Jakkie had a better race, finishing two laps better than in the first heat.
Final Leg 1
This race was similar to the second heat, except Daniel led from start to finish. Jakkie was ahead of Jason for the first four laps. The final order was Daniel, Jason, Jakkie.
Final Leg 2 This time Daniel led lap1 with Jason in hot pursuit and Jakkie just waiting for them to crash. Lap 2 Jason led from Daniel, then the lead changed again and stabilised for three laps before Jason again proved that he is the man to beat. Daniel was second and Jakkie third
RESULT
1st Jason Landsberg
2nd Daniel Du Plessis
3rd Jakkie Landsberg
Heat 3
21.5 Touring Cars
Round 1
There was a bit of skulduggery Tiny’s car was on the track and did 11 laps BUT Charmaine was driving it. Her car had blown a bearing and a gear, but he was too lazy to fix it. Jakkie had a clear run to finish first on 14 laps.
Round 2
Tiny again sat this one out; Charmaine came in first after a race long dice, with Jakkie in second place.
Final Leg 1
Lo and behold there were three cars lined up, Tiny was racing. He got a magic start and led from start to finish, luckily Charmaine’s battery fell out or she would have probably beaten him again. Jakkie was second and Charmaine third.
Final Leg 2
Would all the cars make the start and would they all race??
Jakkie led until Charmaine she pounced and went into the lead which she held until the end. Jakkie held on to second spot until Tiny recovered from his normal start and managed to take second, Jakkie was third.
Result:
1st Tiny Wright
2nd Charmaine Wright
3rd Jakkie Landsberg
Heat 4
540 Touring Cars
Round 1
Colin started third, was up to second at the end of the first lap and in first place by lap 2. He stayed in front till the end. Once passed Lucas gave chase, eventually ending on the same lap.
Jakkie was third two laps back.
Round 2
Lucas led off the line and stayed there for the first nine laps before a hard charging Colin came through for the win. Jakkie had car trouble and did not start.
Final Leg 1
Start order was Colin, Lucas and Jakkie. They circulated in their positions for a full five minutes not even bothering the marshals, even if Colin was racing.
A nice clean run.
Final Leg 2
Not a repeat of leg 1, Colin led for three laps and from then on it was Lucas all the way to the flag. Colin was a lap back in second and Jakkie in third.
Result:
1st Colin Maritz
2nd Lucas Dillschnitter
3rd Jakkie Landsberg
The (writing) Saga Continues – Day Three
1/8 Nitro GT
Round1
Firstly: We sure as hell missed Lammie and young Pieter Swanepoel at this month’s race meeting!
But let’s get to those who did show up; As usual Daniël led from start to finish, man he needs some competition. He won with 15 laps to second place Charmaine on 12 laps.
Kobus got away 5th and worked his way up to third ahead of Henry, who unfortunately had a flame out. Tiny failed again.
Back to Daniël; No one can argue that the VM foam tyres didn’t work well for him?
Round 2 That man Dan again ran away with it. This time Kobus was in hot pursuit and held second place for the first 9 laps. Henry got his things together to finish second with Kobus 3rd, after having problems. Charmaine was third a few laps back,.
Final:
Tiny made an appearance, but decide that the handling was so bad and was a chicane for all the other cars to pass.
As for the race, it was a runaway victory for Daniël, he had 47 laps at the end.
Charmaine was second at the end of lap one, until Henry passed her, she came back on lap 5 and held her position till the end, although some 14 laps back. Kobus had a quiet race concentrating on being there at the end and made it into third place. Henry had problems and retired on lap 23
Result:
1st Danël Du Plessis 47 laps
2nd Charmaine Wright 33 laps
3rd Kobus Griesel 29 laps
4th Henry Ogden 22 laps
5th Tiny Wright 3 laps
Heat 6
Beginners Class
Round 1
New member, Junior Hansen had a good first time out beating Anette into second place both ending on 12 laps. Anzea driving a mini was third and Dalene came in fourth.
Round 2
This time Junior put a whole lap on Anette to win with Anette second. Anzea was third.
Final Leg 1
Anette had her revenge after running in second place for a 5 laps she passed Junior and stayed in the lead to the end with Junior second on the same lap. Dalene was back in this race and ran clean race to finish third ahead of Anzea.
Final Leg 2
Junior got a good start and looked like a winner all the way. Unfortunately Anette had other ideas, but waited until the last lap before taking the lead.
Dalene was third and Anzea fourth.
Note from Anette : Junior’s batteries went flat…that’s what happened!!
Result :
1st Anette Ogden
2nd Junior Hansen
3rd Dalene Griesel
4th Anzea Pretorius
Heat 7
17.5 Touring Cars
Round 1
All the entrants started this one and being a fast class, we expected lots of bumper bashing, but lots of minor problems like broken cars and batteries falling out.
Mark led lap 1 and stayed in the race till lap 6, Daniel took over the lead and ran out an easy winner. Second, some way back, was Jason ahead of Mark, Colin and Andre.
Round 2
Daniel led the first lap, but Mark was out to get him, went past and won with 1 lap more than Daniel’s first heat. Colin did not lose his battery this time and came through from 5th on the grid to finish second. Daniel had a problem or two as did Jason. Andre did not start.
h
A Final Leg 1
Mark and Jason were first and second on the first lap. By lap two Daniel passed Jason, as did Colin.
The race settled down with no further heroics Mark ran out the winner by 1 lap.
A Final Leg 2
Colin joined Andre in the non starter’s box.
A tight race, Daniel led Mark for the whole race with Jason really upping his game to finish third
Result
1st Mark Myburgh
2nd Daniel Du Plessis
3rd Jason Landsberg
4th Colin Maritz
