A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
Feedback : On- Road race : 1st February 2014.
After listening to the radio and watching the TV’s weather reports on Saturday and hearing the forecasts of heavy rain, it was quite a pleasant surprise to wake up on Sunday and found only a little rain on the track. It wasn’t too difficult to get rid of the water before Henry could sugar the track. Thanks to all the sweepers!
We were happy to meet some new people and also to see some familiar faces from last year. Pleased to have met you, Gert Swart and glad to have you back, Lucas! By the way, Gert is a brilliant racer with 30 years’ experience…and it showed!
I am also glad to report that the atmosphere at the track was very pleasant again and it seemed that the drivers were very relaxed. The fun is back at Meyerton Raceway!! Hooray!!
Meyerton Raceway will from now on get a Public’s Choice for the Best Presented Body amongst the day’s entries and the owner will receive a trophy during the prize giving at the end of the race day. Tiny Wright donated engraved glass trophies for the first 6 months of 2014. Thank you, Tiny. The first winner of this new competition was Jason Landsberg with his red electric Mini. Congrats!
Unfortunately, the rain returned just as the first Final leg of the Mini’s started. The water poured down heavily and made any further racing impossible. The track was higher than ankle deep covered in water! See pictures. It was quite disturbing to have learnt that our neighboring towns were dry and sunny!
The Race:
Beginners class:
We only had Richard Botes (8 years old) in this class. Henry raced his little Go cart, without a transponder, to keep Richard company on the driver stand.
Electric mini Class:
In the Qualifying rounds it was Daniël du Plessis who has beaten all of us in both races, with his dad in 2nd place and Jakkie Landsberg in 3rd position. Jason Landsberg, however was ready to change all of that in the Finals, but as I have mentioned earlier, rain brought an abrupt stop to his plans! Sorry Jason, next time you may take your revenge. Looking at the lap times, it seemed that everyone improved in this leg, which unfortunately won’t count for the series points. What a bummer!! The best lap of the day in this class indeed belongs to Jason : 21.48 sec
Electric 540 :
Apparently the gap between the races was a little too short and it caused Tiny and Charmaine Wright to loose out on a qualifying round. So sorry about that! Amongst the 6 participants in this class, Colin Maritz, Lucas Dillschnitter and Jason Landsberg all succeeded in completing laps in 18- point-something seconds. Tiny did a 19.1 lap. Well done guys!
21.5 Touring:
In this class, Tiny did faster laps than his wife Charmaine, but Charmaine’s average lap times were better. Tiny’s fastest lap was 19.6 sec. Danie du Plessis also competed here and managed to race laps of 20 seconds. Well done.
17.5 Touring:
Daniël du Plessis had female company with him for the day and that probably caused him to be a full second plus, faster than his opponents. Of hoe, Daniël?
Anyway, Daniël, Gert Swart, Colin Maritz, Marius Burger, Andre Steenekamp and Harry Wilesmith kept the race very excited, by staying very close to each other with their lap times. Apart from Daniël’s 16.7 and 16.6 laps, all the other guys’ laps were in the 17 to 18 second range. Lekker man. Lekker!
13.5 Touring:
Maybe these guys just tested each other’s skills in the 1st round, because in the 2nd qualifier round they all improved on their own lap times. The fastest lap in this class for the day belongs to Marius with his lap of 16.55 seconds in the second qualifying round. Mooi so!
Nitro:
Daniël and Henry raced with 1/8 th scale cars and to save time, Jason raced with them with his 1/10 th scale. This allowed for some beautiful noise, to add spice to the quiet racing of the electric cars.
Daniëls best lap was 18.7 and Jason Landsberg’s fastest lap was 19.4 seconds.
No prize giving took place, but the series points were given according to the position every racer was in when he/she qualified for the Finals.
PS: Racers will still get trophies, also according to these results…
