Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

April 2016 Off Road Club race

Only a handful of drivers to compete; quite disturbing, seeing that the weather was fine and there were no major races taking place at other tracks in our vicinity. It seems that the drivers are getting blasé (apathetic to pleasure or excitement as a result of excessive indulgence or enjoyment) and they are no more concerned about their ranking and/or scoring of club points.

Anyway, those who were here were here with heart and soul and enjoyed the day.

Heat 1 – Round 1    Nitro Buggy:

Stephen Smith won the 1st round of the day, doing two laps of less than 50 seconds.  Jason, in 2nd place, ended only a second after him, also with two laps of lower than 50 seconds.

Jakkie Landsberg, father of Jason, ended 3rd with Henry in 4th place and Kobus Griesel in 5th.   Kobus unfortunately had too much trouble with his buggy to complete the race.

Jason boasts the fastest lap in this round: 48.65 sec

Heat 1 – Round 2    Nitro Buggy:

Stephen took the 1st place again, now with Jakkie in 2nd and Henry in 3rd.  Jason’s buggy started with flameout’s that would last (almost) all day long….what a pity! He only managed 4 laps before he quit the race. Kobus did not start. Stephen’s fastest lap – 48.43 sec.

Heat 1 – Round 3    Nitro Buggy:

Jason performed reasonably well in this round. By that I mean it was good enough to beat the rest, but not close to his normal better- than - average ability. So, Jason won this race with his dad, Jakkie behind him and Henry in 3rd. Stephen had one long flameout that took him out of the race for more than 2 minutes. Kobus now complete 5 laps, but it was interrupted by several flameouts.

Heat 2  -  Round 1   Nitro Truggy :

Wayne Smith and Kobus Griesel  got seven laps each. Wayne won this round and his best lap was 52.59 sec.

Heat 2  -  Round 2   Nitro Truggy :

Kobus won the race with a fastest lap of 52.97 seconds. That is really good racing on your part, Kobus!

Heat 2  -  Round 3   Nitro Truggy :

Kobus won yet again, but now Wayne boasts the fastest lap – 51.95. Great stuff!

==================================================================

FINAL Buggy race:

Car 1- Jason Landsberg: He had a late start, three short flameouts and one that lasted 6 long and precious minutes.  All this and he STILL ended in 2nd place!  Fastest lap – 48.23sec.

Car 2 – Stephen Smith: Stephen only joined the race after it was already on the go for 5 minutes. He then managed to do some amazing laps. Unfortunately it was a little too late to save the race for him. But those 6 laps of less than 50 seconds is still something that one cannot take away from him. Best lap – 47.02. WELL DONE!!!

Car 3 – Jakkie Landsberg:  His servo saver got stuck halfway through the race. That was such a pity, because he was doing so well. I notice that almost all his laps were around 56 seconds. Taking in consideration that he is still new at off road, I am of the opinion that Jakkie will excel in this class before the end of this year.

Car 4: Henry Ogden had himself a better than average day. His buggy never flamed out and that caused him to win the race. Congratulations! His pit crew (that’s me!) was very pleased with his achievement. You know mos: pit crew can easily carry the blame for one’s failure…. So maybe I can now be praised for assisting in his success…. as if that will ever happen….  Haha.

Car 5 – Kobus Griesel:  The first 11 laps went extremely well. Then disaster struck.  Again and again. But Kobus returned to the race after each flameout and even succeeded in doing his best lap at the end of the final race. I am proud of your determination, Kobus. That is such a good quality to display in any sport.

FINAL Truggy race:

Kobus started the race and completed 7 laps before his trouble started. He came back to the race for one more lap, but then gave it up after his truggy’s central drive shaft universal broke.

Wayne circled the track 12 times and decided that it was no fun to race on his own after Kobus retired, so het also quit the race after only 11 minutes.  His fastest lap – 53.18 seconds.

Final Buggy results:

  1. Henry Ogden
  2. Jason Landsberg
  3. Kobus Griesel

Final Truggy results:

  1. Wayne Smith
  2. Kobus Griesel
