Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

February 2017 Off Road club race

We woke up to a beautiful day, but a track that was damp at a few places, because of the previous day’s rain.  The drivers started pulling in at a slow pace, and it was clear that this was going to be a rather small club race once again.

And with a National event going on at Trap on the same day, we had to be contend with even less entries than usual. But Jason Landsberg – with dad Jakkie – did us proud with his excellent performance at the On Road Nitro Nationals. Congratulations! We nevertheless had a very nice, sociable day at the track, with visitors popping in and out through the day.  We are truly happy with all the new people that are showing an interest in the RC hobby lately.

TRUGGY :

The three entries in this class were Johnny Claes, Martin van Rooyen and Henry Ogden. Henry did not have a good start, although he really spent some time during the week doing some prepping and maintenance on it. Martin was doing quite well and Johnny was his own, capable self. He won the race with a fastest lap of 51 sec. He won the 2nd round as well, improving on his previous best lap, to a 50 sec lap. Henry and Martin were neck-to-neck, with Henry in 2nd and Martin in 3rd.

In the last qualifier Johnny won again, but with no more faster laps. Henry and Martin though, have both improved.

Truggy Final:

The 30 minute final race was a mere continuation of the morning’s races; same people with same results. Johnny won the race with Henry and Martin in fierce competition with each other. Unfortunately for Martin, he had more frequent flameouts than Henry and he had to quit from the race 6 minutes too soon. I do not detect any flameouts on Johnny’s side….Well done!!

BUGGY:

The contestants were: Tertius van Rooyen, JP Sweeck, Ewald van der Neut, Little Johnrique Claes and Henry Ogden. Henry did not start in the 1st qualifier. Johnrique got 5 laps and Ewald 6 laps. JP and Tertius both completed 7 laps, with Tertius in the lead.  Tertius achieved a best lap of just 48.42 seconds.

In the 2nd round every driver improved on their own best lap times of Round 1. Tertius now down to 48.35s. JP 2nd again and Ewald 3rd.  Henry was still annoyed by his buggy that kept on flaming out, but he at least completed 4 laps now.

In Round 3 Tertius started having problems and JP moved into the 1st position. JP now almost breaking  through that 50 sec barrier. 50.05s  Almost there!!

Ewald kept a steady 3rd position.

Johnrique showed a much better average lap time than earlier in the morning.

Henry only completed 2 laps, obviously still struggling with his buggy..

Buggy Final:

With JP at his heels, I mean bumper, there was not a second to waste or even slack down a bit, for the duration of this 30 minute race for Tertius. A very nail biting race to have watched…!

Tertius could not improve on his best lap, but he was forced to improve on his average lap time by JP’s unrelenting pursuing of him.

JP, on the other hand, did succeed to improve some more on his personal best lap time for the day. A worthy contestant, he is!!

Ewald ended 3, again.

Henry was the winner of the Best Presented RC body of the day. Congratulations!
