A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
Once again a race meeting that started with sweeping and vacuuming rain water from the track. We have done this SO many times before, we cannot even keep track of exactly how many times… This time it was 7 consecutive days of rain that caused havoc on our poor RC tracks..
Fortunately it was just a normal club race and time wasn’t very vital. This time André Steenekamp arrived at the track first and as always; those who arrive first, are the one who spend more time sweeping.. I think drivers have noticed that before, and they make a point of arriving as late as possible, to avoid the toiling, haha. Anyway, thanks to all that helped to get the track reasonably dry, in order to hold the event.
Best Presented RC Car of the Day:
Never before had it been so hard to decide which car to choose! If there are spectators, especially new people that are not familiar with any of the drivers, we ask such unbiased people to choose a car. But at the time that we normally choose the best presented car, there were not any spectators yet. So, amongst me, Henry and one or two other drivers, Stephen Smith’s new car was chosen. But Charmaine Wright’s new pink car was an equally preferred choice.
8th scale GT class:
The 1st round kicked off with a win by André Steenekamp. We saw Charmaine in the 2nd place and Wayne Smith in 3rd
Jacques Brits had by far the quickest lap, but after a flameout or accident halfway through the qualifier, he lost some precious seconds, which caused him to be content with the 4th place.
It seems like Jakkie Landsberg also had a flameout in this round. Otherwise he did well.
Johan Korff kicked off quite good, but then disaster struck and his car just refused to get going again.
Henry Ogden did not start.
The 2nd qualifier round in this class was won by Jacques, this time with even faster lap times. Best lap 16.92s
Wayne delivered the kind of performance that we expect of him and ended 2nd. Quickest lap 16.85s.
Henry achieved a 3rd place.
Andre ended 4th after a very late start.
Jakkie suffered loads of car trouble and Johan even more.
Charmaine decided not to take part in this qualie.
In the 3rd round Wayne lived up to the expectations that we have for him by winning the race.
Jacques ended 2nd with a best lap of only 16.6 s. The fastest lap for the day. Congrats!!! An accident early on in the race cost him a guaranteed 1st place…
André ended 3rd. Jakkie had better luck and improved quite a bit on his average lap time. Johan managed to get 17 laps this time.
Charmaine quit the race after 8 laps when something broke on her car.
Henry did not start. Well, he actually DID take part in the warm up laps, but Lucas, who used to pit for him earlier on, was now busy fixing his own car and Henry did not arrange for a substitute to refill his car. By the time I realized that Henry needed fuel, the car flamed and wouldn’t start again.
Final GT class:
Wayne completed a grand total of 100 laps. The best lap being 16.62 sec. Great job!
André ended 2nd with 90 laps behind his name and a quickest lap of 18.15sec
Charmaine ended 3rd with a best lap of 18.01 sec. She completed 83 laps.
Jacques, after being involved in one accident too many, ended 4th a split second behind Charmaine. Taking in consideration that one of those accidents took 222 seconds away from his racing time, Jacques raced brilliantly to catch up this good! Fastest lap – 17.11s. Well done, Jacques!
Johan’s car lasted for the full 30 minutes and he completed 78 laps. His best lap – 17.48 sec. Not too shabby!!!
Henry and Jakkie were plagued by car trouble. Jakkie, well done with that quickest lap of 18.11s!
200mm (10th scale) Nitro:
The 1st qualifier started with only three of the five competitors.
Lucas’s car broke in the warm up rounds and I think Ewald was just not ready, or something.
Jannie Holtzhausen won the race.
Jason Landsberg ended in 2nd place because of a car that didn’t want to co-operate.
Stephen Smith ended in 3rd. Stephen was still setting up a brand new car and was just sort of fooling around at this stage.
In round 2 we saw Stephen in the lead with a brilliant lap time of only 15.86s.
Jannie ended 2nd and Ewald 3rd.
Jason was still struggling with his car, but still managed to achieve a best lap of 16.62s
Lucas was still under the impression that his car couldn’t be fixed for today’s race.
Ewald used the opportunity to win the 3rd qualie in the absence of the club’s top 2 in this class.
His quickest lap – 17.85s. Well done!
200mm Final :
Jason back in the lead, like many, many times before. 102 laps behind his name with the quickest lap - 15.90 sec.
Stephen , after being out of the race for almost 5 minutes, ended 2nd. (288.43 sec) He completed 86 laps and his best lap – 15.63. Excellent!!
Ewald ended 3rd with only one lap less than Stephen.
Lucas, with the help of Henry and some drilling in his workshop, managed to get 34 laps out of his car.
Jannie quit after 21 laps, when his car broke down.
Thanks for the day. Hope to see you all back here next month. Keep well.
