A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
The day started pretty much perfect, weather wise. And there were enough drivers/entries to cover both the 8th scale and 10th scale classes.
But for most of the drivers the day turned out to be not-so-nice, because their cars had let them down.... Now, THAT can be a new topic for discussion, for example: were their cars properly prepped, or was it just bad luck?
We did not have much choice for Best Presented Car of the Day, so we rather skipped that one.. The nice cars were not displayed with ‘dignity’, like the body on the chassis, properly fitted with its body clips, and the others were either dirty or very much worn down…
Piet du Toit’s car was nicely displayed, but he won this award just a while ago with the same car.
Let’s see what we can get from you next month, guys. Or shall we have to wait until the new year, for ‘fresh’ cars?
8th scale GT
Round 1:
Wayne Smith and André Steenkamp were caught up in a fierce battle for a win, with Piet du Toit not far behind them. All three mentioned completed 20 laps. Johan Korf, also known as Hein, also was pretty fast in this 1st round, but something must have happened that cause a longish lap just after the start. Jakkie Landsberg did just fine.
Henry and his GT were not on the same page..
Jacques Brits, one of our very competent drivers, he ended 2nd in the Nationals - picked up car trouble early on in the day.
Best lap in this round – Wayne – 16.67s.
Round 2:
Wayne couldn’t achieve a faster best lap, but he still boasts the fastest average lap time. And that’s what count isn’t it?
André held on to his 2nd place position, with a faster best lap as well as an improved average lap time.
Jacques overcame his initial car troubles and slid into the 3rd position and thereby forced Piet back one position.
Both Hein Korff and Jakkie Landsberg were less fortunate now and slid back with each one lap less than in round 1.
A collision after only 7 laps caused Henry an exhaust replacement.
Round 3:
Jacques took over the lead, for now…
André stayed in his regular 2nd place.
Wayne had a costly flameout, but that did not stop him from boasting the fastest lap in this round – 16.79s
Hein was doing very well until something went wrong in his 18th lap.
Looking at the printout, Jakkie apparently had three flameouts.
Piet quit after 12 laps
Henry retired after one lap only – for the rest of the day. He tried to fix his broken car, but could not do so.
Final GT race:
Wayne had a flawless race. He completed 99 beautiful laps. His determination to outperform his rivals became evident when he achieved his quickest lap in lap number 94!! Wayne’s best lap – 16.73s. Well done!!!
Before that last minute improvement on Wayne’s part, Piet was the driver with the fastest lap in this race. Piet ended 2nd with 94 laps.
Jakkie boasts a 3rd place – 87 laps.
Jacques Brits had difficulties, but he nevertheless finished the race – 79 laps.
André got his car’s rear side shaft damaged irreparable.
The drive shaft on Hein’s centre diff came lose.
Henry did not start
10th scale (200mm) Nitro:
Jason Landsberg and Francois Geyser took turns to win the qualifiers.
Jason’s best lap – 17.15s
Francois’s best lap – 18.97s.
Henry’s car had a flameout in the last qualifier and refused to start again.
FINAL 200mm nitro:
Henry could not get his car to start.
Jason drove 42 laps and then decided to stop, as he had no competition.
At some point after that, Francois got his car in racing order again and he then raced 19 laps on his own before time ran out on the computer.
After prize giving, an elated Francois received his long desired GT car...an early Christmas gift from his wife, Esmarie.
......a brand new RC car...!!!
