A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
We were fortunate to have had a beautiful racing day. Maybe it had been just a tiny bit too hot, but February in SA is known for high temperatures, so the heat didn’t come as a surprise..
What was a surprise, is a visit from the Claes family that once had been a very important part of the Meyerton RC fraternity. It was SO good to have you with us again! And thanks for your assistance in the pit area.
THE RACE:
We as track owners were relatively anxious to see how many entries we would get, because 2017 had been a very quite year on the off road side of our track.
Although it couldn’t count as a BIG race, it was a really pleasant one, indeed!
Some drivers had better results than they expected, but on the other hand there were definitely some disappointed drivers as well. Tertius, we know what you are capable of.........: (probably near the top 10 in SA) We are confident that your buggy’s motor problems will get sorted out befrore the next race. And Nelis, competing in competitions after many years will obviously require some practice again....and getting to know your car's in's and out's.... like you did before. The both of you will come and show us next month.
BELOW:
Nelis with his pit-man, whose name I forgot, attending to his Buggy's technical hitch.
André Steenekamp can be proud of himself for stepping out as champion of the day, because he also didn’t compete in off road racing for a couple of years. André won the Buggy race convincingly, after Tertius van Rooyen, who boasts the quickest lap – 49.14s – started having trouble with his car.
Rolan Ferreira participated in his 2nd club competition ever and his repeated 56 sec laps are evidence of his potential. Well done!
Newcomer Mark Kovako (below) took part in the Truggy class and progressed from high 60’s to only 54s laps in one day. Excellent driving, Mark!
Young Erich van Rooyen was supported by his dad Leon. Erich tried his hand to formal off road racing, while his elder brother is already involved with electric on road racing since 2017.
Sadly Erich’s truck lost a wheel during the qualifiers and he couldn’t complete the day’s racing. The tyre came lose from the rim and there was no replacement available for him.
Henry Ogden, track owner, had himself a good day. All Henry always wants is for his cars to last a whole race through and that is exactly what he got today. Henry won the Truggy race with a tyre that became lose from the rim as well as seized clutches. He then ended 3rd in the Buggy class. Henry also won the Best Presented RC body of the day. Congrats, my dear hubby. I am happy for you.
May I express our sincere wish that from now on the number of entries will grow every month..
