Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

June 2019 Electric On Road

June 2019 Electric On Road club race & 6 month series prize giving

A historical day for Meyerton Raceway: Our very first day of hosting a LIVE race. Our members were given the link to follow the race online. Those who followed it said it was really cool! This was made possible by the newly acquired LiveTime timing system that we are now using. There are still a few hiccups, but we are getting there…. We would like to thank our drivers for their patience with us while we iron out the challenges.

The Race:

Electric Mini:

Paul Langenhoven won the 1st qualifier round convincingly. His best lap – 22.11s.

André Steenekamp ended 2nd, Leon van Rooyen 3d and Francois Geyser 4th.

In the second qualifier, things went almost the same. But now Leon left the track early, subsequently Francois moved into the 3rd place. André was the only driver that improved on his own best lap.

The first leg of the finals saw exactly the same positions as the first round. Paul, still in the lead, now increased to a very fast 21.9seconds lap. Both Francois and Leon also achieved better lap times.

The last final didn’t bring any surprises regarding the positions, but Paul was able to boast a best lap of only 20.85s.

Mini Overall :

  1. Paul Langenhoven
  2. André Steenekamp
  3. Leon van Rooyen

540 Touring:

Marchel van Rooyen kicked this class off with a won. He also made other more experienced drivers worried with laps of only 20 seconds behind his name. Gert Fourie (or maybe his substitute, which is not allowed) ended 2nd and Piet du Toit 3rd. James Theron completed 15 laps and ended 4th . Marchel’s younger brother Erich ended 5th. The fastest lap belonged to Piet - 20.05s

Piet du Toit took the lead over for the 2nd qualifier round. James moved up and into 2nd place. Erich moved from 5th to 3rd place. Marchel did not start.

The 1st Final leg saw Piet in the lead once again, this time with a best lap of 19.53s.

Piet stayed in 1st place for the Final leg, but could not repeat his 19 second lap.

Erich ended 2nd and was followed by James.

 540 Overall:

  1. Piet du Toit
  2. Erich van Rooyen
  3. James Theron

Electric TTO1

Nathan Steyn was chased in close pursuit by Erich van Rooyen. But he still succeeded in winning this round with the best lap as well as the best average. An average of 23 sec is a very satisfactory performance. Mooi so, Nathan!

Erich ended 2nd and Owen Stevens 3rd. Charl de Lange is still a novice and he ended 4th.

Ruan Visagie did not start.

Round 2: Nathan and Eric both improved on their previous best laps and they stayed in 1st and 2nd places respectively. Ruan now joined the race and ended n 3rd place.

Erich changed the picture in the 1st leg of the finals. He won the race and boasts a consistency percentage of 94.8%

Little Owen Stevens ended 2nd ,. His average lap time gets better and better every month.

Ruan had to settle for 3rd place.

Charl’s average came down from 35 to 27seconds. Quite an achievement!

Nathan was having car trouble.

For the final race of the day, Erich stayed in the lead and he was now followed by Ruan. Nathan recovered from his car trouble and ended 3rd. Nathan did the fastest lap for the day in this class - 22.48s.

TTO1 Overall:

  1. Erich van Rooyen
  2. Owen Stevens
  3. Ruan Visagie

21.5 Touring:

In this class, Paul Langenhoven continued on his winning path, which he started in the mini class.  He completed 17 laps with a best lap of 20.6. To our surprise, Paul’s biggest rival was Esmarie Geyser. She is just going from strength to strength lately. She not only equaled Paul’s 17 laps, she also succeeded in doing a best lap of 20 seconds, just like Paul. Even her average came very close to Paul’s. Excellent! You go, Girl!!

James Theron ended in 3rd place. James, Marchel, Piet, Gert and Martin all completed 16 laps each.

Piet’s lap of 20.4s was the quickest one in this round.

The 2nd round looked somewhat different from the 1st one. Piet du Toit now urged Paul to perform even better, to stay in the lead. It resulted in Paul completing 18 laps. Piet ended 2nd with 18 laps as well. In 3rd place we saw James again. Marchel started having car trouble.

In the 1st leg of the Finals, Esmarie took her 1st place back when she ended just behind Paul again. Piet now had to be content with 3rd place.

The last leg of the Final was won by Paul and he now achieved the best lap of all in this class - 20.04s Good job!

It serves to be mentioned that most of the drivers in this class are now capable of laps of 20. something.. You guys (and lady) rock!!

21.5 Overall:

  1. Paul Langenhoven
  2. Piet du Toit
  3. Esmarie Geyser
