A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
Maybe our first official race day dawned upon the drivers too soon after the holiday season..
Piet du Toit’s GT wasn’t ready yet and neither was Henry’s car.
The racing buddies, Rolan Ferreira and Louis Nortje were both missing in action…
Today’s competitors:
Andre Steenekamp
Johan Korff
Leon van Rooyen
Francois Geyser
Esmarie Geyser
1st Qualifier round:
André won the race, 20 laps and best lap – 17.10s
Please note: André’s average lap time of 18.0 sec wasn’t seen again on this day…
Korff followed in 2nd place, with also 20 laps and fastest lap – 17.24s
Leon ended 3rd, his best lap in this qualifier - 19.13s
Francois completed 18 laps and his wife Esmarie 17.
2nd Qualifier :
First 3 places the same. Andre now completed one more lap, but could not improve on his best lap. And neither could Korff. Leon improved to a 18.47 lap.
Francois retired from the race after 12 laps.
3rd Qualifier:
Korff succeeded in beating André in this round. He also improved on his previous best lap – 17.19s. Good job, Johan!
André ended in second place now.
Esmarie ran out of fuel, because she took a risk, which did not pan out great for her.
Francois, all gentleman-ly, came into the pits to hear what the problem with his wife’s car was, but he still managed to end 3rd.
Leon experienced serious car trouble. It seems like his radio intermittently lost signal, so he quit this round after a mere 2 laps.
30 minute Final GT race:
Andre won the Main race with 92 laps behind his name. His quickest lap – 17.88s Whoop whoop!
Johan Korff followed with 90 laps behind his name. He had a good race, but it had been obvious that his car did not perform as it could. Maybe you changed some settings, Johan ?
Francois did that caring husband thing again…twice…. He came into the pits to enquire about his wife’s absence on the track… So sweet of him… Francois ended 3rd and his best lap – 18.20 sec. Mooi gedoen Francois!
Oh, by the way, when this race started, it seemed like husband and wife were driving “stock cars” style. If I didn’t know any better, a person would either have thought that these two were fooling around or being spiteful, which neither of the two applied, because they nicked each other’s cars multiple times.
Esmarie’s car indeed broke down finally and forced her to quit the race after 49 laps. The steering servo went…
Leon again quit before the end of the race, when his car kept on losing signal every now and then, but not before he completed at least 59 laps. Leon’s fastest lap – 17. 53sec. Great stuff!
