Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

August 2014 Electric On Road Race report

Above : The Mini Class in action on the driver stand

After a horrible and overcast Saturday, Sunday dawned to good sunshine, but a chilly little wind was about, just to remind us that winter was not entirely over yet.

Much to the disgust of some detractors, it would appear that instead of “three” entries we had forty odd entries, not bad for a ‘dying club that does not have proper racing’.

It was good to see a couple of the old racers back. Freddie and Werner raced with us again and they brought a new racer with.

Also new after a long break of about eight years was Ian Stapelberg, who had a good race meeting and who will soon be giving the 540 class some competition.

Now down to the race report:

Beginners Class

Heats

Round 1

Ian in his first race back was our winner catching Daleen, the early leader, on lap 6 when she had a problem, passing her and leading to the end. Ronel also got past Daleen to claim second place. Junior was fourth a few laps back.

Round 2

A bit of a change about with Junior sorting out his car and coming in first ahead of early leader, Ronel. This time Ian had problems and finished third ahead of Daleen.

Finals

Leg 1

Getting back into racing, Ian quite quickly won this one in style, two laps up on the rest. Junior and Daleen were second and third respectively, both on the same lap.  Ryno, who is new to the sport, made the grid after missing the heats and was fifth ahead of Ronel.

Leg 2

Ian led from start to finish, missing 15 laps by just three seconds. Junior was about a lap and a half back in second place, ahead of Daleen and Ryno

Overall

1st Ian Stapelberg

2nd Junior Hansen

3rd Ronel Bann

4th Dalene Griesel

5th Ryno Kleinhans

Heats

The question in the past was always who will win: Tiny or Charmaine. This has now changed to by how much will she thump him this time.

Round 1

Lucas reigns supreme leading from start to finish, but I know someone in the beginners class that could be a problem soon.   (I think Madman is referring to Ian?) Jakkie was second for a while, but Charmaine forced her way past. So he ended 3rd, with Paul 4th and  Tiny 5th Anette was 6th.

Round 2

Lucas won this one again, but this time Jakkie stayed ahead of Charmaine. Anette was fourth with Tiny 5th. Paul was 6th.

Finals

Leg 1

The song remains the same, Lucas led from start to finish, even if Tiny got in the road a few times and no, he was not following Charmaine’s orders to take him out.  Just a joke!  Charmaine was second with Jakkie third and Tiny fourth and Paul 5th , all on the same lap. Anette was 6th.

Leg 2

It is about the same song again, Lucas in the lead, maybe we should penalise the winner with a 5 gram weight every time they win. Jakkie moved up to second place and went a lap quicker than Paul, in third place. Paul, Charmaine and Tiny finished in that order, all on fourteen laps. Anette was a lap or so back in 6th

Overall

1st Lucas Dillschnitter

2nd Jakkie Landsberg

3rd Charmaine Wright

4th Paul Langenhoven

5th Tiny Wright

6th Ahette Ogden

Heats

Round 1

Popular class this with ten cars entered. Freddie lead the first seven laps, slowed dramatically and eventually retired on lap ten. Jason, who had a bad start, worked his was up to first place with 17 laps. Harry, in second place, had a race long dice with Marius to finish third both on 16 laps. The next pair up was Gert fourth  and Andre fifth,  both on 14 laps. The next pairing up was Logan and Dylan on 12 laps in sixth and seventh. Conroy went out early in ninth place and Werner did not start.

Round 2

Marius did not start, due to gremlins in the works,(must be after midnight and somebody fed them)

Jason led the first 2 laps until passed by Freddie, Freddie won from Jason, both on 18 laps and best laps very close. Werner was third, very close behind Jason missing 18 laps by 2.8 seconds. Fourth and fifth in close attendance were Harry and Gert, also on 17 laps. Andre was up in 6th, falling behind in average pace, Dylan was 7th ahead of Logan and Conroy.

Finals

Leg 1

Freddie made the break and led the race from start to finish, edging ever close to a16 second lap.

Andre, Jason and Werner set off in hot pursuit. Harry was also in the mix for a while, but was booted out into the next group with Dylan and Gert. Logon was 8th and Conroy 9th. Marius still had gremlins.

Leg 2

A bit of a problem in this one: during the course of the race the transponder loop was hooked by a  car and all but three of the cars stopped counting laps.  Those that did count were those near to the pole. In fairness it was decided to restart the race to give al an equal chance at winning.

Freddie did 19 laps to finish first. Gert, Jason and Harry were third, fourth and fifth. Conroy and Logon were still running strong at the end. Marius had that problem again. Dylan, Andre and Werner only completed the first lap.

Overall

3rd Harry Wilesmith

4th Gert Swart

5th Andre Steenkamp

6th Logon Burger

Minis

Heats

Round 1

The Landsberg show rolls on, Jason beat Jakkie. Lucas now with a new ? motor was third ahead of Kevin. It shows that Anette was 5th but me thinks that Henry was driving her car. Kobus beat Ronel and Johan.  (Madman, he was only testing it, after a late night re-built….from MO 5 back to MO3.)

Round 2

All with the right cars this time. The Landsberg continued show, but with a bit of a hiccup. This time Lucas was second, splitting Jason and Jakkie. Kevin was in his customary 4th place and is aiming to  move up a bit. Henry was 5th ahead of the dice between Kobus, Ronel and Anette. Johan was struggling with a car with what appears to be too much steering.

Finals

Leg 1

The show resumes, Jason won, but Jakkie was close, only 4 seconds back. Lucas was full a lap back in third place, followed by Henry who outran Kevin for a change. Then came the dice with the rest on 9 laps. The positions changed lap after lap, but what was important was who was where at the end, Ronel led Anette, Kobus and Johan across the line.

Leg 2

The show did not continue and just when we were beginning to think they were unbeatable, another bigger hiccup with Jason winning, but Jakkie have car problems and only finish 8th. Lucas was second ahead of Henry with Anette’s transponder in his car. ( mixed/confused 6 and 9…oops) Kevin was in 4th place ahead of an improving Johan. Kobus beat Ronel this time. Jakkie and Anette had problems.

Overall

1st Jason Landsberg

2nd Lucas Dilschnitter

3rd Kevin Bann

4th Jakkie landsberg

5th Henry Ogden

6th Ronel Bann

7th Anette Ogden

8th Kobus Griesel

9th Johan Barnard

21.5 Touring

I think Tiny must switch transponders with his wife, so he can win for a change.

Heats

Round1

Conroy and Dylan got out in front and chased each other hard, swapping places more times than the average grand prix. Towards the end Charmaine moved up to second, demoting Dylan to third. Jakkie was quicker than Tiny and was 4th with Kevin 6th.Position 2 to 5 were all on the same lap.

Round 2

This was a turn up for the books: Conroy won, Tiny was second (Hooray! he beat Charmaine) and Jakkie was third. Kevin was a close 4th and Dylan 5th after having a few problems. Where was Charmaine?  Tiny worked on her car and the servo saver came off after 4 laps.

Finals

Leg 1

Now that her car was okay, Charmaine was out to prove a point and won this one from Conroy, the gap at the end just half a second. Dylan was third a lap back, with Jakkie and Tiny in hot pursuit. Kevin was 6th a further lap behind.

Leg 2

Conroy proved that first place was rightfully his on the day and won by a lap. Charmaine raced into second ahead of Jakkie and Tiny, Kevin was 5th and Dylan did not start.

Overall

1st Conroy Olivier

2nd Charmaine Wright

3rd Jakkie Landsberg

4th Tiny Wright

5th Kevin Bann

6th Dylan Olivier

Round 1

Marius, after taking a break to race off road, proved that he still had it and won after a close encounter with Werner. Harry and Logon were next up, but a lap behind the leaders. Andre was 5th and Freddie 6th. Freddie’s lap time was quickest.

Round 2

Freddie was quickest and won by over a lap. Logon chased hard, coming in second with Marius third. Harry was a distant fourth ahead  of Andre, who seemed a bit down on pace. Werner had a problem coming in 6th.

Finals

Leg 1

Freddie again quick with a fastest lap of 16.27 seconds and won going away. Andre got his groove back to move into 2nd place, although a second a lap of pace. Logon was third, keeping Marius back in 4th. Werner was 5th and Harry 6th.

Leg 2

At last Werner got all the bits working properly and was very quick at 16.65 seconds. Freddie was second, two seconds behind Werner and a lap up ahead of Marius and Harry, who were also in the 16 lap bracket. Andre was 5th also on 17 laps. Logon did not start.

Overall

1st Freddie Kotze

2nd Werner Van Waveren

3rd Marius Burger

4th Andre Steenkamp

5th Harry Wilesmith

6th Logon Burger
