November 2014 Electric On Road Race report

41 entries on the squatting list after 4 on-line entries that never pitched, were removed. We would however like to have those four guys back at the track ….  Hope everything at home will be okay soon…thanks for letting us know.

The biggest class was the mini’s again, like it used to be a year or two ago. On that note: Thank you to my husband Henry that did his best to fix my Mini, but eish, I just cannot seem to come right with it.  I will rather stick to the 540 class only, thank you!  Consequently, we went from 12 Mini’s in the qualifying heats to 11 in the finals. The 21.5 class had a nice group of 10 entries that kept the winning results on a knife’s edge….  According to me this is currently our most exciting class.  All competitors are of almost the same level with driving skills. In the Mini class there is still a huge gap between novices and the more experienced drivers. But hey, everyone has to start somewhere… And call me a sissy, but I am still of the opinion that a Mini is a difficult car to drive.  Okay, back to the race.  After quite a heavy rain shower on Saturday, we were not sure at all what to expect on Sunday. Fortunately, much to our relief, the water that I swept off the track, late Saturday afternoon, did not re-appear. The rain mostly kept away, apart from a few light drizzles that didn’t do any harm.  So there wasn’t any sweeping awaiting the guys on their arrival..haha.  The race was however cut short later in the day when the rain returned. The BBK timing system was then set to calculate the results and by the time we held the prize giving, the rain had already subsided. Those who did not leave straight after the prize giving had another 3 and a half hour of RC fun and general socializing.

The winner of our Best Presented RC Body trophy this month was Paul Langenhoven. Congratulations!

Beginners class:

Only four entries, of which one driver was totally new. A heartfelt welcome to Fabio Lopez. We hope to see more of you in future. And well done on your 1st ever race and sommer going straight for the 1st place on the podium! Enrico Hansen and Anzea Pretorius, two young kids, who randomly participate in this class, were both on the driver stand this month, to offer some competition for Daleen Griesel and the new guy.

Round 1: Fabio lead the race with Enrico behind him. Daleen came 3rd and Anzea 4th after she completed 10 brave laps.

Round 2: Daleen, with 14 laps and a fastest lap of 24.9 seconds, took the lead away from Fabio, after he retired after 10 laps. That left Enrico to end 2nd with 13 laps completed and Anzea with her 9 laps in 4th place, behind Fabio.

Round 3: This time Enrico won the race. He completed 14 laps with a best lap of 25 seconds. Fabio took 2nd place with Daleen in 3rd and  Anzea again in 4th.

Final leg :  (only one, due to rain)  Fabio, Daleen, Enrico and Anzea, in that order.

Beginners’ Overall results:

1st -  Fabio with fastest lap of 24.21 sec

2nd - Daleen

3rd -  Enrico

Electric 10th scale Mini :

To verify what I’ve been talking about in the intro: Here we have laps that vary from 21.7 seconds to  37 seconds. A huge gap in the skills of the 12 contestants on the driver stand….

Round 1: A round that was won by Jason Landsberg with 16 laps and a fastest lap of 22.4 seconds. Behind him was Danie du Plessis with 15 laps and a fastest lap of 22.8 seconds..well done, ou toppie!  Daniël ended slightly behind his dad in 3rd place. Next was Jakkie Landsberg and Henry with 14 laps each. Then Kevin with 13 laps. Lucas Dillschnitter, under normal circumstances in the top 3 position, had a big hiccup in the middle of this round ( that kept him out of the race for more than 2 minutes) only ended in 7th position now. Then came Ronel, Johan Barnard, Anette, Paul Langenhoven and Enrico. The last four participants clearly had serious car trouble.  Jason’s fastest lap was 22.4 seconds.

Round 2: Again Jason in the lead. Daniël now overtook his dad and Lucas moved up 3 positions, to end 4th.  These top four guys had 16 laps each. Jason improved to a very fast lap of only 21.9 seconds. Very good for a Mini, don’t you think? This time it was Ronel who took a few knocks and only completed 9 laps while Anette did not start. The other 6 participants were somewhere in the middle.

Round 3: Daniël won this round, as he more than often did in the past. That doesn’t mean that Jason didn’t deliver, on the contrary, he even improved on his fastest lap some more! His fastest lap now being 21.7 sec.  3rd was Lucas, who now was crawling back to where he usually finds himself: in the top 3! Danie du Plessis , for some unknown reason, fell back to 4th place and Jakkie ended 5th. Johan Barnard, Paul Langenhoven and Henry got 13 laps each, while Ronel Bann and her son Enrico got 11 laps each. Kevin Bann quitted after 3 laps and Anette did not start (with no wish or intension to take up Mini’s again in the near future! )

Mini leg 1 Final: Top 3: Daniël du Plessis, Danie du Plessis and Paul Langenhoven.

Mini leg 2 Final: Not run due to rain

Mini Overall results:

1st Daniël du Plessis

2nd Danie du Plessis

3rd Paul Langenhoven

540 Touring:

I (Anette) don’t consider myself a good/ skilled driver at all, but on this day I was severely handicapped with a car that kept on stalling during the race. The reason for this problem was only discovered and solved in the afternoon, when the race was already over and I went around the pro’s, complaining about the problem. Thank you Andre and Kevin for noticing that the. …………….

Round 1: Lucas Dillschnitter won the race with Charmaine Wright in 2nd place and Jakkie Landsberg in 3rd. Lucas’s best lap was 19.7 seconds. Paul Langenhoven and Tiny Wright was 4th and 5th respectively and both completed 16 laps. Anette ended 6th.

Round 2: Lucas won again, this time with Jakkie taking 2nd position and Paul ending 3rd. Tiny ended 4th and Anette 5th, because Charmaine retired after 10 laps. No laps of less than 20 seconds were driven.

Round 3: In the lead once again was Lucas, followed by Jakkie and Paul in 3rd place. Anette ended 4th with Charmaine who retired again before the race has ended and Tiny did not start. Lucas achieved a lap of 19.5 seconds.

Leg 1 of Final:

Charmaine was up to her old self again, but only managed to end 2nd, with Lucas in his well deserved 1st place. Jakkie ended 3rd. Then came Tiny, Paul and Anette, in that order.  The top 4 racers all had best laps of 20 seconds.

Leg 2 of Final : not run due to rain

540  - Overall results:

1st Lucas Dillschnitter

2nd Charmaine Wright

3rd Jakkie Landsberg

21.5 electric touring:

This was the only class that was lucky enough to have completed their whole race, including the two final legs, before the rain interrupted the race. A tight race trough out all the heats …and one that was dominated by Marius Burger and Harry Wilesmith, as usual!

Round 1: Top 3:  Marius, Harry and Charmaine, respectively. Then came Tiny, Logan, Kevin Bann and Kobus Griesel. Jakkie Landsberg was closely behind them, with Ronel Bann a little further behind. Danie du Plessis did not start.

Round 2: Harry, Logan, Charmaine and Marius, in that order, all had 18 laps. Danie was now back in the picture, ending in 5th place with his 17 laps. Behind him it was Kevin with 16 laps, then Jakkie, Kobus and Ronel with 15 laps each. Tiny did not start.

Round 3: Marius back in the lead, with a fastest lap of 18.5 seconds. Harry ended 2nd and Kevin moved up to 3rd position. Logan fell back a little and so did Charmaine. Kobus moved up two places. Tiny again did not start.

Leg 1 of Final: Marius won the race yet again and also improved on his own best lap time, now doing a lap of 18.2 seconds! Harry came 2nd and Logan 3rd. Charmaine, Danie and Kevin completed 17 laps each, while Jakkie and Kobus did 16. Then came Ronel with 15 and Tiny retired after 13 laps.

Leg 2 of Final: Marius won the race with one more lap than his son, the runner-up, Logan.  Kevin moved into 3rd position with a personal best lap of 19.8 seconds…I think? Kevin’s excellent performance forced all the others down considerably. Tiny again had a DNS.

21.5  electric touring Overall:

1st Marius Burger

2nd Logan Burger

3rd Harry Wilesmith

17.5  electric Touring:

We had a few new entries in the 17.5 class and these guys know how to drive! Welcome to Pedro and JP in this class, your great off-road skills certainly show in your on-road driving.

Round 1 : This round was won by Daniël du Plessis with 21 laps completed, of which the fastest one was 17 seconds. 2nd was Jason Landsberg with also 21 laps, but wait for this: a fastest lap of 16.73 seconds! But however fast this lap was, Daniël still won because of his better average lap time and that is what counts….. So then, behind Jason it was Logan Burger 3rd and Harry Wilesmith in 4th. Werner van Waveren, a guy that visits us every now and then, ended 5th, but he also boasted a very fast lap of 16.77 seconds. Nice!! Behind him it was Pedro Maldonado, Andre Steenekamp and JP Pessoa, in that order. Marius Burger did not start.

Round 2: Things have now changed completely. Jason took 1st place, Werner 2nd and Daniël ended 3rd. Jason raced a fastest lap of 16.62 seconds….wow! Marius joined the race, Pedro moved up 1 position and Logon moved fell back 4 places. Andre Steenekamp was plagued with car problems and retired after 5 laps.

Round 3: Harry now took over the lead, just because he can!! Daniël ended 2nd and Pedro worked himself up to 3rd. Well done! Andre recovered from what has caused him grieve before, but now it was Logan who was having car trouble.

Leg 1 of Final:

Werner showed what he was capable of and won the race. All of his laps were very fast…around 17.5 seconds, with a best lap of 16.6 seconds.  Well done! Harry ended in 2nd position with Jason behind him in 3rd place. Daniël ended 4th and all of the top 4 racers achieved laps of 16 point - something seconds.

Marius, JP and Pedro also did well, but it seems like Andre’s car trouble has returned. Logan did not start.

Leg 2 of Final : not run due to rain

17.5  - Overall result:

1st Werner van Waveren

2nd Harry Wilesmith

3rd Jason Landsberg

Apart from the rain that brought an abrupt end to the racing day, it was  once again a pleasurable day at the track.  Hoping to have you all back next time!
