Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

April 2016 On Road Elec

Beginner class:

Anzea Pretorius started with very good laps in the qualies and looked like a sure winner. She even continued doing fast laps in the 1st leg of the Finals. But something went terribly wrong in the 2nd leg of the finals and Nathan Steyn caught up with her and even beat her to the finishing line.

That was just what this young boy needed to boost his self confidence. He beat Anzea to the podium with his more consistent driving. Glad his parents were here to witness his victory. (He normally comes with grandpa Piet du Toit) Anzea, we took note of your ability to race laps of 22 and 23 seconds. We will keep an eye on you! Theresa, I know you were not feeling well after having a sleepless night. Thanks for participating nevertheless. You almost break through the 25 second barrier.

Electric Mini :

Round 1  - Jason won the race with fastest lap 21.06 sec

Round 1 – Jakkie won the race. Jason’s fastest lap 20.79 sec

Leg 1 of Final – Jason won with best lap 20.77 sec

Leg 2 of Final  - Jason won with fastest lap 20.92 sec

Leg 3 of Final – Jakkie won the race. Jason again boasts fastest lap – 20.92

This was a very close race.  Up to the very last moment nobody knew who the winner was going to be.  It turned out that Jason came out as the champ, but his dad Jakkie made him work hard for that position.  Ewald and Piet took turns to end 3rd throughout the qualies and therefore 3rd and 4th places were also never a done deal before the computer coughed out the final results. Ewald however beat Piet with one point.  Nice, close racing guys.  Exciting and a pleasure to watch.

540 Touring:

As with the beginners, one can never be too sure about the outcome of a race before the very end. Jakkie Landsberg convincingly won both qualifier rounds and two of the Final legs. But after a collision with Anette in the final leg, he lost control of his car. The damage forced him to quit the race. His misfortune gave Charmaine the necessary gap to move in and she not only won that race, she also took the Overall 1st place. Congrats!  So sorry, Jakkie.  Jakkie succeeded in doing laps of less than 19 seconds 17 times on this day. That is SO fast; he really deserved to win…. Best lap 18.26 sec.

21.50 Electric Touring:

Piet du Toit, Ewald van der Neut , Jakkie Landsberg and Graham (Tiny) Wright had to fight this one out. Piet du Toit won all the races in this class convincingly. Tiny quit after the 1st qualifier. Ewald and Jakkie took turns to end in 2nd position and that made things very interesting, because the drivers as well as the spectators had to wait to the very end to see who would earn the best place on the podium. That person was Jakkie. Well done!  Fastest lap in this class for the day: Piet du Toit – 18.80 sec (twice)

17.5 Electric Touring:

Jason, George and André all achieved multiple 16 second laps in the 1st round. In the 2nd round both Jason and George improved on their best laps. Andre improved on his fastest lap in the 1st leg of the Finals. George improved again in the 2nd leg. All three of them bettered their times in the last leg of the day. Fastest lap for the day: Jason with a 16.07 sec lap.

Best presented RC car of the day:  George Symes  Congratulations!!
