A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
A day that an unusual large amount of drivers were looking forward to… and then came the forecast of two days of rain. But there didn’t come much of that promise, or threat, depending on how you look at it. South Africa needs rain, and lots of it too, but a race day with rain is not a very much appreciated. Anyway, Meyerton had a little rain the night before, but no rain fell on the day of the race. The bit of water that was on the track was swept away quite easily. And what a beautiful day we’ve had!
The online entries looked promising, and we all know by now that one can add at least five more last minute entries at the track. On this day we had 9 more entries on Sunday morning. Again we had the pleasure of seeing some old, familiar faces as well as a couple of brand new ones. Together with the regular crowd, of course.
The 49 entries were divided as follow:
7 in beginners
8 in 540 stock touring
7 in Mini
9 in 21.5 touring
8 in 17.5 touring
6 in TTO0 stock touring
4 in 13.5 touring
Award for best Presented RC body:
Wener van Waveren
Beginners:
Janu Lombard took an early lead and after winning both qualifiers, it seemed like a done deal that he would step out as the day’s winner. But a 9 year old boy, Nathan Steyn had other plans. Nathan beat Janu and the rest in both final legs and with that performance he secured his 1st place on the podium. We’ve seen Theresa Poalse and Johnrique Claes in this class before, but today we also had novices Chae-mari Smit and Charlie Colby attempting their first ever competition racing. The best lap of the day in this class belongs to Jane Lombard – 23.23 seconds.

10th scale electric Mini :
We saw the regular father-and-son team, Jakkie and Jason Landsberg in the lead again, but this month they were challenged by a visitor named Justin Robertson. Also in this race were: Piet du Toit, Michael Glaus and Ewald van der Neut. Henry Ogden, track owner did enter, but due to administrative duties, he could not join the race. Best lap for this class – 20.90 sec by Jakkie.
Final results:
TTO1 stock:
Justin Robertson and Rolan Ferreira dominated this race, but with stiff competition from Charmaine Wright and Derek Sardini. Duncan van der Merwe also drove in this class and Henry Ogden joined the race for one qualie and one final leg. . The quickest lap in this class was 20.08 by Justin Robertson. Well done!
Unfortunately he apparently ran his TTO1 with the wrong motor and consequently had to withdraw from the podium positions.
Final results:
540 Touring:
Jakkie and Charmaine stayed in the first two positions respectively throughout the qualifier rounds as well as the final legs. The 3rd place was taken in by a different driver every time. The rest of the drivers in this class were: Michael Glaus, Anette Ogden, Artur Winiecki, Anzea Pretorius, Johnny Claes and Jacques Coetzer. Jakkie’s fastest lap – 19.03 seconds. Brilliantly done, Jakkie!
Final results:
21.5 Touring:
The top 3 places kept on changing and there was no way we could predict the final results for this class. However, Johnny Claes managed to win both the final legs and Kevin Gates’ and Rolan Ferreira’s names did pop up repeatedly in the top three. Also seen competing in this class was: Michael Glaus, Piet du Toit, Justin Robertson, Ewald vd Neut, Rudi Botes, Tiny Wright and Johnny Claes. The best lap – 17.86 sec by Michael Glaus. I think Michael’s car broke down after that, because he never raced in the finals.
Final results:
17.5 Touring:
It was either going to be Marius Burger, Jason Landsberg or Kevin Gates who was going to be the top achiever in this class. But oh boy, Marius ran into trouble in the 1st leg of the finals and he subsequently lost his chance for the 1st place on the podium.
Werner van Waveren, Jakkie Landsberg, André Steenekamp, Wiltin Brauer and Derek Sardini also competed in this class. The quickest lap was raced by Marius – 16.57 sec. Wow!!
Final results:
13.5 Touring:
Wilton Brauer is actually still very new in RC as such, so it was very brave of him to enter into this very fast class. To have achieved a best lap of 17.51 was excellent! But the more experienced guys like Werner, Marius and Jason were the ones to battle this one out. Jason’s lap of 16.21 seconds was the quickest one in this class and also the fastest of the day.
Final results:
A very nice day, filled with fun and friendship, was had by all. See you all again next month, okay??
