Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

Oct 2016 Nitro On Road

A very intimate race…(sounds much better than “small race” doesn’t it?) But just before we start feeling sorry for ourselves; let us rather celebrate the almost 50 entries that we had last week.

We hear rumors that many RC clubs are having the same problem; People are more conservative with the little money that they have.  .  RC is only a hobby and money should be spent on necessities, first. Remember, there is a recession going on in South Africa.

Nevertheless, the eight nitro drivers, together with their pit crew and/or family and supporters, enjoyed the race and the good weather at the track last Sunday.

200mm (1/10th scale) :

Piet du Toit, Stephen Smith and Johan Korff took part in this class.

For some reason Stephen did not race in the 1st qualifier round. Newby Johan completed only 4 laps and that left Piet to win this round hands down.

Stephen came into action in round two, and beat the hell out of Piet and Johan. Stephen did some very fast laps, as we expect from him, by now.  His quickest lap – 16.25 seconds.

Johan performed much better in round two, but now it was Piet who was having car trouble.

Round three offered nothing but trouble for all three drivers.

200mm (1/10th scale) - Final results

The BBK system estimated that Stephen would get 104 laps in this 30 minute race. But unfortunately, round and about the middle of the race, Stephen had a 2 minute flameout.  He however recovered fully from this disappointment and drove another 43 beautiful laps after this incident.  His best lap – 15.60 seconds.  Wow, that is fast..!

1/8th scale Nitro GT:

Round 1 - Our reigning champ, Wayne Smith did not start.

Jacques Brits beat André Steenekamp in this round and André was followed by Henry Ogden.

Johnny Claes ended 4th.

In the 2nd round, Johnny beat the other three. Was that the result of Wayne’s assistance? I suppose so!  What a dear man he is..!?

Wayne only joined the race for round three and he did so in style. He won this round and boasts a fastest lap of 16.38 seconds.

Final GT :

Wayne drove 97 laps and secured his 1st place on the podium. Great job, as always, Wayne!!

Jacques Brits had an equally successful race and ended 2nd with 92 laps behind his name. Well done, Jacques!

Henry ended in 3rd place, with 76 laps. And a tire that was non-existing.. !

André had some trouble that took him out of the race for quite some time. Once for a minute and a half and then again later for a full 7 minutes. His best lap of 16.00 seconds was nevertheless commendable. Congrats, André!!

Johnny quit the race after 37 laps when the spur gears on his GT stripped.

Best presented RC car today: Henry Ogden

Hope to see many more Nitro cars in the November club race meeting.
