A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
It is evident to see that the guys are excited to do the rough –and-tough –man-thing again…they are hungry for off-road racing!
2018 may just become the year that mark the return of Meyerton Raceway to the Off Road racing scene. Well, let’s hope so….
Although it had been a very small race, few nitro buggies and more nitro truggies, we are aware of lots of drivers that will be back soon. We have several father-and-son teams that will probably be back as soon as they realize that the off road side of Meyerton Raceway is on the move again.
There is also a promise of brand new interest…
A couple of guys phoned us with questions regarding off road racing. One of these families, also a father-and-son team, will pay us a visit this coming Sunday. And although we will be hosting an On Road Electric race, we will make time for them and attend to their questions about off road racing.
However the track is currently not in a bad shape, we are in the process of smoothing out the rough patches and will even get some soil delivered to do necessary ‘re-construction”. And you all know that ‘muti’ that Henry uses to hold the dust down…? He is prepared to purchase some again; we just hope that it will be worth the cost and effort. But let me not be negative; you guys must just work with us on the online entry side. We’ve learnt that drivers go to the Who Has Entered on our website. If they see only few entries, they also do not enter. And that becomes a vicious circle; because if YOU don’t enter, the next guy also sees few entries and the next and the next. So, please enter online if you are interested in coming and subsequently stop the vicious circle.
THE RACE:
Rolan Ferreira, an old hand to Electric racing, is starting on the Off -Road side this year. (He won’t be racing on road this year)
He made a brilliant start by completing laps of less than 57 seconds in his very 1st round, in his very 1st official race! 56s laps are very rare for beginners. Well done!
Unfortunately he couldn’t deliver his full potential in the 30 minute Final, because his buggy let him down big time. If I remember correctly, he picked up a problem with the clutch, which took him out of the race for more than half of the race ( close to 17 minutes) . Sorry!
Henry Ogden’s frequent 57s laps are not too bad either, being out of practice and all…
Piet du Toit turned up with his electric on road car…oh my…what a disaster. Wrong date..wrong race meeting..!
Gavin Mc Lean paid us a visit again. He was undoubtedly the Off Road king of the day. His frequent 51 second laps in every one of the 4 races shows that he is a skilled driver. I sincerely hope that next month there will be opponents that are going to be a real challenge to him. We know that with the return of the Van Rooyens and the Landsbergs , things won’t be so easy for him. Even André Steenekamp may return to Off Road racing again. We also don’t know yet what Jacques Brits is going to do this year. What about Johan Barnard? And Gavin Leiching and Paul Lombard? Let’s wait and see…
Riaan Bornman also started with RC racing recently. He joined in the Truggy class. I can see from his Facebook comments that he has enjoyed the day’s racing with us. All those 60 second laps proves that he has got what it takes…quite good for a beginner! Well done!
Henry raced in the Truggy class as well and things did not go too bad at all. 56.3s had been his best lap time in this category today. Until he had to quit because of a clutch problem in the Final race, that is...
Best Presented RC body:
Gavin Mc Lean brought his twin Truggy & Buggy set. His Truggy won him the Best Presented RC Car of the Day award. Congratulations!

Hoping to see a much bigger challenge next month...
