Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

February 2018 nitro club race

The morning started with a light drizzle, trying to scare us off. But it didn’t work, because the drivers were all convinced that the weather forecast of 28 degrees will realize. Which indeed happened. In fact, it turned into a sweltering hot day.

We welcomed a new family into the RC family; Marius van Straaten and his two sons, Divan and Ruan joined the

club. We really hope that you will enjoy every moment with us here at Meyerton Raceway.

Charmaine Wright showed up with a freshly painted body for her 8th scale GT. It had been very popular… attracted a lot of admiration. She won the award for Best Presented RC body. Congratulations!

THE RACE:

The first qualifier round was won by André Steenekamp. He completed 21 laps. He kicked the day off with a brilliant best lap of 16.88s best lap. André was followed by Piet du Toit. Piet achieved an equally impressive lap time of just over 17 second. Good for you, too!

Johan Korff (who apparently likes the name Hein more) arrived with a body that was desperately in the need of more sleep, but he still managed to end 3rd.

Henry and Charmaine both scored 18 laps and Francois Geyser ended in 6th place. He obviously was plagued by more than one flameout.

Round 2

Each and every driver improved on their previous round’s best lap times. André now got a 16.52s lap.

Henry won the race. Whoop whoop..

Round 3

André is Back in the lead. 21 laps. Best lap 16.55s

Piet in 2nd once again and Henry now in 3rd.

Charmaine and Johan only joined just before the end of the race ended.

Francois DNS.

GT Final:

André achieved an astounding 100 laps in this 30 minute race. Great job! And I saw on Facebook that he acknowledged his cousin Vinette for being his pit crew. André’s quickest lap – 16.77s.

We await a visit from Wayne Smith in the near future. Come on Wayne, André is in need of a REAL challenge!!

Piet ended 2nd with 87 laps. Piet’s best lap during the day – 17.31s. Wow!

Johan Korff lost more than 6 minutes of racing, Francois almost 7 minutes and Henry spent 8 minutes of racing time on a flameout. Johan’s best lap – 17.94s. Congrats!!

Charmaine did not start, but boy! .. did that car go after the race was over?!
