Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

Tamiya Cup 2018 3rd leg

Weather forecasts during the days prior to the TC race meeting kept on talking about rain and thunderstorms over the weekend, but in the end it was only during prize giving on Sunday afternoon that there was a real threat of rain. Luckily we managed to get through the process without disruption. Well, that is apart from a few photos that need to be edited, because of the dark clouds hanging over the track while the prize giving was on.

See the clouds..... Picture below:

We were pleased to have seen most of the old, pardon, familiar faces again. And then we were fortunate to have met quite a few new drivers, together with their families. Mmmm, nice people, they are….Some even said they will be back for informal visits to the track. You are very welcome!

Not many drivers came to practice on Saturday, but those who came seemed to have enjoyed the day. They also used the opportunity to claim their ‘spots’ for Sunday’s racing. And they shared their experience to inform their friends about the track condition and layout. Or maybe I should rather say they ‘warned’ their friends…haha

Race Day:

Very little to complain about from our race control’s side… thank you for your co-operation.

It had been a bit of frustrating for me when there was uncertainty on whether we should split the Stock drivers, or not. I have already issued most of the transponders when the decision was overturned. But that was it; not much more hassles.

Ah, but as usual, race control needed to lecture, and even threaten to the race on halt, when the designated marshals did not attend to the requests to take their marshal positions. TC drivers should REALY consider using hired marshals, if they are so not-willing to do it themselves… especially when they race at Meyerton Raceway. The marshals we use are coming with us for many years now; they know how to handle the cars. We can maybe negotiate a better fee than with normal club races, which is R50 per main driver. (We don’t charge the wife or child of the main driver) So, to rephrase; we only charge per family.
