Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

May 2018 electric on road club race

The online entries doesn’t always indicate what to expect for a given race meeting; so on this day we just had to wait and see how many drivers were going to show up before 8am.  At the end a total number of 31 entries were loaded and the seeding list was printed … well after 9 ‘o clock.

Hey guys, you need to be at the track by no later than 8, please!

A number of really nicely painted car bodies were on display for the drivers’ briefing.

Winner of Best Presented RC Body of the Day:

Esmarie Geyser – Congratulations!

Electric Mini:

Round 1:

Not a prosperous race, to say the least.

Louis Nortje managed to win this round, problems and all. He at least got 12 laps.

André Steenekamp retired from the race after 10 laps, due to battery problems, I think.

Derek Sardini also encountered a whole lot of car trouble and Paul Langenhoven did not even start.

Round 2:

Things went much better this time; Paul got 17 laps. Best lap – 21.04s

André ended in 2nd place again, this time with 15 laps behind his name. Louis repeated his 12 laps and Derek was now the driver with the most car trouble.

Leg 1 of Mini Final:

Andre managed to spruce up his game and finished in the lead with 17 laps. Best lap – 20.90s.

For some reason Paul’s car ran out of wooma and his last 2 (out of 16 laps) were unusually slow…

Louis now started having car trouble. He completed a mere 4 laps before he quit the race.

Derek DNS

Final Mini leg:

Paul took his 1st place back from Andre and boasts 18 laps. Best lap – 20.77

Andre had to be complacent with 2nd place, but he can still be happy with achieving the quickest lap in this round – 20.69s.

Louis was performing at his best now, completing 14 laps – best lap 23.4s.

Derek gave up on his Mini completely…at least for THIS race meeting…

Mini Overall results:

  1. Andre Steenekamp
  2. Paul Langenhoven
  3. Louis Nortje

Electric beginner class:

Only three drivers this month. Victor (my grandson) paid us one of his rare visits. Erich van Rooyen had been ready to enter in the TTO1 class, should there not be any more drivers for a Beginner class. But with little Ruan Brauer, we gave the three of them a class of their own.

Erich displayed a steady performance throughout the day. His best lap – 24.15s

Victor experienced a little car trouble, but didn’t do too badly overall. His quickest lap today – 26.90s.

Ruan succeeded in keeping his car on the tar road more than ever before. In the last leg of the Final he finished 10 laps Best lap – 28.58s

Overall results - Beginners:

  1. Erich van Rooyen
  2. Victor Fourie
  3. Ruan Brauer

540 Electric Touring:

Leon van Rooyen managed to take one winning for himself, after which Charmaine took the rest.

Charmaine’s fastest lap – 19.37s

Leon’s fastest lap – 19.34s

Piet stayed in 3rd place all along.. His fastest lap – 19.89s

Henry realized that a steering arm came lose in the 1st qualifier. From then on everything went well. His best lap was performed in the 2nd qualifier. 20.9s

540 Touring overall results:

  1. Charmaine Wright
  2. Leon van Rooyen
  3. Piet du Toit

21.5 Electric Touring:

This had been our biggest class for this race meeting. 10 drivers entered, but only 8 finished in the Finals.

Wiltin Brauer was the uncontested champ in the 21.5 class today. He won 3 out of the four races. His best lap – 19.15s

Kevin Gates made himself very happy with three laps of 18. -something. We are happy for you, Kevin

Now you must jus get your average still closer together, and then you can give Willtin carrots! Kevin’s best lap – 18.75s

Janu Lombard was on a roll again. He competed against much more experienced guys, but stood his man nevertheless. He even writes a 2nd place behind his name for the 2nd qualifier. Janu’s quickest lap – 19.35s Good job!

Piet du Toit kicked the day’s racing off with a 4th place, he then moved up to the 2nd place, but did not return for the Finals, due to a front drive shaft that broke. He boasts 20.13s laps in both qualifier rounds.

Leon van Rooyen started the 1st qualifier somewhat troublesome, but from then on everything went well for him. His best lap – 20.1s. Good job!

Henry completed all the races in this class today. His quickest lap – 20.04s happened in the second qualifier.

Francois’s results are almost similar to those of Henry. His best lap – 21..07s

Paul Langenhoven missed out on one qualifier, but did very good in the two Final legs. He ended 4th overall and boasts a fastest lap of 19.37s

Tiny Wright only took part in the 1st qualifier and then quit the race for the rest of the day.

Esmarie, the only rose amongst the 9 thorns, should be happy with her performance as a relatively newbie. She had several laps of around 23 seconds. You go, Girl!

Overall results - 21.5 Touring:

  1. Willtin Brauer
  2. Kevin Gates
  3. Janu Lombard

TTO1 Stock:

Janu Lombard won 1 of the heats and both the Final leg. Best lap – 21.59s. Nice !

Charamine won the first race of the day and ended 2nd overall. Her quickest lap – 23.39s

Louis Nortje ended 2nd in the last leg of the day and 3rd overall. Best lap – 22.63s

Nathan Steyn put up a brave fight against his much older rivals. His best lap – 24.07s

Overall:

  1. Janu Lombard
  2. Charmaine Wright
  3. Louis Nortje

 13.5 touring:

André Steenekamp drove his 17.5 with the 13.5 cars and his results should be displayed separately on the website. But André fell out of the race after only 3 laps in the first qualifier. Not much you could do with a burnt motor… Sorry man; maybe next time?

Amongst the 13.5 drivers Kevin Gates and Willtin Brauer were caught up in a fierce battle for the 1st place on the podium. Kevin won both qualifiers as well as the 1st Final leg. But Bad Luck struck and he couldn’t complete the Last final leg. That influenced him so badly that he ended 3rd overall in spite of his general VERY fast laps.

Kevin and Willtin share a best lap of 16.61s

Every time that Kevin won, Willltin had to be satisfied with a 2nd place, but when Kevin’s car broke, Willtin won the race. Good job.

Derek Sardini was having a bit of car trouble in the 2nd qualifier ( I think that is when his car’s battery came undone twice in one race), but otherwise he had a pretty good race day. Best lap – 17.26s

Gert Fourie, our newest serious driver, was brave enough to compete in this fast class. He did more than fine by achieving two 3rd places today. Fastest lap – 21.28s Well done!!

Tiny’s best race today had been the 1st leg of the Final, when he completed 13 laps and it is also here where he drove his quickest lap – 18.52s

13.5 Overall results:

  1. Willtin Brauer
  2. Derek Sardini
  3. Kevin Gates
