It seems like we had 28 entries. It is already two weeks ago and I can hardly remember what happened on that day. (Please excuse me; I had other important stuff that needed my attention.)
What I do remember, is that we had a surprise entry from Mike Miscia, a guy that we haven’t seen for a very long time.
And Gert Fourie decided that the time has come for him to take this RC thing seriously.
Kevin Gates was missing in action for a couple of months, but he also made a return to club racing.
But here I am now with the race report:
Award for Best Presented RC Body of the Day – Ruan van Straaten
Heat 1 – Electric Mini:
André Steenekamp entered for this class, but at unpacking his RC stuff, he discovered that his Mini's was no where to be found..
Louis Nortje on the other hand was 100% ready; he drove well and won the race convincingly.
Tyronne ended 2nd and young Divan van Straaten ended 3rd.
Ruan van Straaten struggled a bit to get a grip on his Mini.
In round 2 it was Divan who won the race, with Tyronne in 2nd again and Louis was the one with the car trouble now.
The 1st leg of the Finals was won by Louis again.
The last leg of the Final, according to the printout, was also won by Louis, but it seems that Tyronne had transponder issues and after the correction was made by race control, Tyronne was put in the lead as overall winner for this class.
Overall:
1. Tyronne Visser
2. Louis Nortje
3. Divan van Straaten
Heat 2 – Electric Beginners
Divan van Straaten and his brother Ruan were allowed to compete in this class as well today, because we wanted some competitors to race with newcomer Louwkie de Lange.
However: With all their laps of more than 25 seconds, the two siblings will be allowed to race in this class for some time to come, still...
The13 laps of Divan in comparison with the 5 laps of his rivals should tell the rest of the story..
so let me advance to the next round.
Divan ended 1st again, but now his brother was only two laps behind him. Louwkie had less laps, but faster ones now.
In the 1st leg of the Finals, Divan continued on his winning path with his brother at his heels once again. Louwkie now improved drastically. Well done!!
The last leg looked almost similar, with the exception that Louwkie did not start. He also left the premisses before the prize giving ceremony...
Overall:
1. Divan van Straaten
2. Ruand van Straaten
3. Louwkie de Lange
Heat 3 – 540 Touring:
Both qualifier rounds were won by Charmaine. Her best lap – 19.84 sec.
She was followed by Piet, Freddie and Henry in both legs.
In the 1st leg of the Finals, Charmaine was in the lead again, but this time we saw Freddie in the 2nd place. In the final leg for the day, Freddie had been the victor, with Charmaine in 2nd place and Piet in 3rd.
Overall:
1. Freddie Kotze
2. Charmaine Wright
3. Piet du Toit
Heat 4 – TTO1 stock:
Both qualifiers had the same results: Charmaine, Tyronne, Nathan, Louis
The first Final leg looked a bit different: Charmaine, Louis Nathan and then Tyronne.
And in the last leg we saw young Nathan Steyn in the 2nd position. Nathan was performing his personal best for the day – a nice best lap of 22.48 sec - Well done!
Louis and Tyronne were both plagued by car trouble. Sorry...!
Charmaine's quickest lap – 21.66sec. You go, Girl!
Overall:
1. Charmaine Wright
2. Nathan Steyn
3. Louis Nortje
Heat 5 – 21.5 Touring:
Kevin Gates made his comeback count by winning the 1st round convincingly.
He was followed by Piet and Henry respectively.
In the 2nd qualifier round Kevin – in the lead again – was followed by Mike in 2nd and Piet in 3rd place.
In the 1st leg of the Finals, both Kevin and Mike got best laps of 19.6, but Kevin had been the one with the best average.
In the last race of the day in this class, Kevin gave it his all and achieved an even better lap time – 19.41 – and he also boasts an average of 19 seconds, which is proof brilliant, consistent driving skills.
Mike had a fastest lap of 19.26, but it did not help him to beat Kevin's impressive average lap time. Mike ended 2nd overall.
Overall:
1. Kevin Gates
2. Mike Miscia
3. Piet du Toit
Heat 6 – 13.5 Touring:
In this class Kevin had stiff competition in the form of Freddie, Andre as well as Mike again.
He still managed to win both qualifier rounds, but unfortunately bad luck kicked in and he struggled to keep his car in the race in both Final legs. He nevertheless is the proud driver of several 16 second laps, of which the fastest one being 16.61s. Congrats!
Freddie Kotze had been in the class the he usually excels in. On this day it was no different. He had one 2nd place, one bad round, but he turned the tables in the Finals by winning both legs as well as walking away as the overall winner of the day. Good job!
Andre Steenekamp wasn't half bad either... He boasts two 3rd places and one 2nd place.
Gert Fourie stunned me by entering this fast class as he had only recently started racing seriously.
Mmmm, worthy competition material...we will keep an eye on him.
Mike did not start in the first qualifier round, but after that he was seen in 2nd place twice and once in 3rd place.
Tiny Wright entered and then disappeared, as usual...
Overall:
1. Freddie Kotze
2. Mike Miscia
3. Andre Steenekamp
