A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
Hi. I am (embarrassingly so) aware that Meyerton Raceway had almost zero to report on regarding the off road track for close to a year now. But as you can see, I am back!
The fact that the financial situation in South Africa has a negative influence in people’s spending behavior, and that a hobby like RC racing can by no means count as a necessity (some guys may differ from me on this point), cannot be denied.
But over and above that, we found that through the years, the drivers at Meyerton Raceway took a bigger fancy in the on road track.
Both the electric and nitro disciplines attracted large numbers of interest, but at the same time they showed less interest in the off road. And to come and compete in three disciplines per month would have caused domestic problems with the missus, I am sure!
With Allan Dyer’s poor health and the subsequent closure of his much loved track, Avion Raceway, a whole bunch of off road drivers we are well acquainted with, were left stranded.
The other one or two off road tracks in the Gauteng Province are also under financial pressure; hence Meyerton has now become alive again. Fortunately we never stopped maintaining the off road track. In spite of recent frequent and heavy rain storms, it took only a few days of extensive labor to have it back in super condition again.
The drivers from neighboring towns and cities as well as a guy from quite far away, decided to pay us a visit on Sunday 13 January,. The even named the race : “Off Road Nitro Season Opener”
We appreciated their presence and we hereby invite them all back for the monthly off road race day in February as per our 2019 race calendar, which is published on our Facebook page Meyerton Raceway
R/C as well as our website under Related Links on the right hand side of the Homepage.
