Meyerton RC Raceway Racing

April 2019 Electric On Road club race.

April 2019 electric on road club race.

Not the biggest, but surely one of the most pleasant races we had in a long time. Excellent weather and a relaxed atmosphere. Thank you to all that enjoyed the day with us.

It had been a nice surprise to have had Paul Langenhoven with us for the first time this year. Really nice to see you back at the track and also nice to have seen Celeste again as well. A pity Victor couldn’t make it.

We missed our club clown Louis Nortje, who had other things to do, like fetching “Biltong inni Bos”

Martin and his young son Owen showed up again. There weren’t any Beginners, apart from Owen, so he had to race in the next available class, TTO1, and he sommer headed straight to 1st on the podium! With multiple 23 second laps, there is NO chance that he will EVER go back to beginners. Sorry to say, Owen, but you have proofed beyond doubt that you are already a full-blown racer!

THE RACE:

Electric Mini:

Close racing throughout the day in this class.

Two wins for Andre Steenekamp and two wins for Paul Langenhoven.

Unfortunately for André, things went terribly wrong for him in the last leg of the Finals. He had a blow out of one of his tyres and a screw came loose from one of the car’s shocks. Subsequently, he was forced to quit the race.

André’s best lap – 20.05s

Paul’s best lap - 20.66s

Mike Miscia’s best lap – 20.71s

Leon van Rooyen’s best lap – 22.28s

Francois Geyser’s best lap – 22.51s

Well done, guys. These are very fast laps for those difficult little cars.

Overall:

  1. Paul Langenhoven
  2. Andre Steenekamp
  3. Mike Miscia

540 Touring:

Piet du Toit’s quickest lap – 18.94s Great stuff!

Gert Fourie’s quickest lap - 19.36s

Marchel van Rooyen’s quickest lap – 20.08s

Erich van Rooyen’s quickest lap - 21.8s

Overall:

  1. Piet du Toit
  2. Gert Fourie
  3. Marchel van Rooyen

Electric TTO1:

In the absence of regular TTO1 drivers Nathan Steyn and Louis Nortje, the two young boys had to fight off one another. Erich had a very satisfying first round, but then his car all of a sudden started playing up. I never got to ask his dad Leon what went wrong. And the novice driver Owen exceeded our wildest expectations. (He was supposed to be in the beginner class, but there were no other Beginner entries.)

Erich’s best lap – 22.76s

Owen’s best lap – 23.3s

Overall:

  1. Owen Stevens
  2. Erich van Rooyen

21.5 Touring:

What a nice, full class with ten drivers.

Mike Miscia kicked this class off with a win. He repeated it in the second qualifier round.

Something happened during the lunch break, because Leon van Rooyen, I mean his car, returned red hot for the Finals. He took over from Mike by winning both the two Final legs.

Leon boasted several 18 second laps. Congratulations!

Paul Langenhoven was equally fast and on a roll during the qualifiers, but was involved in a car crash at the start of the final legs. As he pointed out: one of his rivals tried to drive through his car, instead of around it. So sorry man, you did not deserve that….

Piet was doing well by ending 2nd or 3rd in every race, but in the last race of the day his speed control got tangled up in the belt after only 6 laps.

Husband and wife Francois and Esmarie Geyser had a private challenge between the two of them. Francois turned out to be the best driver today.. Francois is only .1 second away from the 18 second “dream lap”

Henry Ogden also came close to breaking through it when he achieved a 19.24s lap today. Almost there!!

Gert Fourie shed the rust off after attending his first race for 2019 today. His best lap a very satisfying 19.85s

Martin Stevens, a relative new driver, can be more than happy with his fastest lap of 19.88sec.

Marchel van Rooyen succeeded in braking through the 20 second barrier in the last race of the day. 19.95 s. Well done!

Overall:

  1. Leon van Rooyen
  2. Mike Miscia
  3. Francois Geyser

Best presented car of the day: Esmarie Geyser Congratulations!
