Meyerton RC Raceway Racing


May 2017 Nitro On-Road club race

Mmmmm, when the cat is away, the mouse will play… Just joking.  Henry, the track owner and Big Boss of the club had to work at his day job and André Steenekamp, our usual assistant and I had to run the show on our own.  I can safely say that we did a good job.  No hiccups were encountered and everything went smoothly.

A bite in the air reminded us that winter was indeed with us. The temperature could not have been more than 5 degrees above freezing point. But as usual, by 10 o ‘clock bare arms were seen, as soon as the guys started to get busy.  

As always, a good vibe was palpable amongst the drivers, despite the cold weather in the early hours of the morning.

April 2017 On Road (Elec & Nitro)

On request of some of the drivers, we once again combined the on road nitro & on road electric club races for April. It turned out a big success. The electric guys got to know the nitro cars and vice versa.  Our 48 entries are proof of the interest that it created. Even the spectators displayed an even greater interest than usually. We actually won over a couple of ‘onlookers’ as potential racers!

Tamiya Cup at Meyerton April 2017

We made the track available, free of charge, for practice on Saturday, but not many drivers thought that they were in need of practice…haha.  Those who did show up, had a relaxed day and practiced to their hearts’ contend. While some guys left late in the afternoon to go check in at the relevant guest houses, others arrived with a bakkie load of camping equipment. A total of 5 men and three ladies decided to camp out at the site.  A bit of rain fell from 6 to 8pm, but this did not put a damper on the campers’ spirit. Of course Henry and I joined them for a couple of hours, chatting away until late..
