A bit of background info: The founding meeting was held at the home of Henry Ogden, that is adjacent to the tracks, on December 10 th 2008.
A very intimate race…(sounds much better than “small race” doesn’t it?) But just before we start feeling sorry for ourselves; let us rather celebrate the almost 50 entries that we had last week.
We hear rumors that many RC clubs are having the same problem; People are more conservative with the little money that they have. . RC is only a hobby and money should be spent on necessities, first. Remember, there is a recession going on in South Africa.
A day that an unusual large amount of drivers were looking forward to… and then came the forecast of two days of rain. But there didn’t come much of that promise, or threat, depending on how you look at it. South Africa needs rain, and lots of it too, but a race day with rain is not a very much appreciated. Anyway, Meyerton had a little rain the night before, but no rain fell on the day of the race. The bit of water that was on the track was swept away quite easily. And what a beautiful day we’ve had!
The online entries looked promising, and we all know by now that one can add at least five more last minute entries at the track. On this day we had 9 more entries on Sunday morning. Again we had the pleasure of seeing some old, familiar faces as well as a couple of brand new ones. Together with the regular crowd, of course.
Meyerton Raceway hosted a very enjoyable RCX Challenge on Sunday 4th September. Because it was only one week after the National event in Midrand, there was more than just a bit reason to have concerns about the amount of entries that we would draw. But although there was a request for us to postpone, track owner Henry refused, because our dates were already out – and published – before the National dates were even decided upon. So we stuck to our original race date and were pleased with the 33 entries. The only drawback was the fact that we didn’t have an electric buggy class this time. The three guys that entered for it collectively decided to give it a miss.
